SDCC 2012 Photo Dump

Hey all, it's been about a month but I still have Comic Con on the brain. Good times, and my first. I figured by now I should post a few pics of some costume stuff I did and some way cool stuff other people did. Here it comes!

I updated my Ghostbuster costume, with some heavy non-canon customization. I'm carrying Tex, my vision of what the Ghostbusters might carry if they needed a heavy-duty proton gun. I'll do a full post on this build later.

Here I am with Deadpool, making everyone uncomfortable in Slave Leia garb. Genius.

Day 2 and 3 I wore my Aperture Test Subject costume, or Mell if you prefer. The Portal gun is the official NECA gun, vanilla flavor.

Klingons

Chell, with no gun but some sweet Longfall stilts

Posing with a very good Chell and a kid who I perceived as doing a tester/scientist mashup. The kid bought the Comic Con Cave Johnson Portal gun at the event, an exceedingly wise purchase in my opinion. He also built his own Companion Cube and had the voice-enabled GlaDOS module running off an actual potato. Kid was HARDCORE.

I went to the NECA booth and got my Portal gun signed by the models for Cave and Caroline Johnson, and Karen Prell, who animated Wheatley. Afterwards I was sitting near the booth, eating a sammich, and a dude tosses that turret at me. The turret is cosplaying as a Power Ranger.

Soon after I spotted Adam Sessler in the crowd (it was the Sess, no doubt.) It was a pleasure to meet him and have a nice little chat.

Here I am with Kratos and Nariko. I was happy to hear that Kratos had taken body paint tips from Mario and Alice! Nice guy.

There was a mess of awesome Team Fortress 2 players.

Other Mother

Dude with a pretty good Kuato.

Really good Cowboy Bebop team.

And then I was done...

First Real Six-String/Fender Squier for Rock Band 3 Hands-On

Ever since wannabe shredders picked up plastic toy guitars to play Guitar Hero, the legitimacy of music games has been in question. What's the benefit? Why not play a real instrument? I always feel like I have to point out that video game guitar and real guitar are totally different, separate skills. With the Fender Squier for Rock Band 3, the line has not simply been blurred - it is erased. I have begun to learn the way of a six-string samurai.

Ümloud 2010

Ümloud! One of my favorite events from 2009 returned for 2010 and it was better than ever. I'm confident in saying "better" because this year my friends and I took the stage as Supercollider. The experience was well worth it. We all had a blast, and the event raised more than $11,000 for the Child's Play Charity. Supercollider is myself, James, Rick, Mario, and Alice. Bask for a moment in our awsomeness. Big thanks to Tyler Winegarner photography for the images.

Green Day: Rock Band

Well this is...unexpected. I'll even go as far as unwanted, too. I think Green Day is fine, but I never would have chosen them as a candidate for their own disc release. They're certainly not The Beatles, nor AC/DC. Not sure if they're as big as Lego... I'm interested to find out what will fill the disc, but at this point I'm very skeptical. If this were DLC I'd be singing a different tune...perhaps one by Green Day. As it stands, the Rock Band Network is my most-anticipated RB development in 2010.

What I'm Playing:
  • Main Campaign: Muramasa: The Demon Blade
  • Side Quest: Modern Warfare 2, Forza Motorsport 3

Ümloud '09 \m/

Excuse me, I'm a bit groggy today. It's for a good cause. Last night I went to Ümloud, a late-night Rock Band party to benefit Child's Play.

It was awesome! The crowd had a good-spirited vibe, and Chris Kohler was the perfect MC. Check out some of these performers:

Costumes, tunes, and other Rock Band 2 goodness wasn't all. There were gaming treasures to be coveted and won in the silent auctions, raffle, and swag giveaways.

All of those piles of donated awesomeness were given away to the crowd by the end of the night. Darn my luck, my tickets came up too early to be allowed to claim this vicious piece of signed Bioshock 2 art:

I watched it move around the club through the night, and as jealous as I was, I'm glad it went to a good home. That Final Fantasy Distant Worlds CD signed by Nobuo Uematsu? It looks pretty good on my shelf...

Look at all this craziness on the swag table!

Game Boy Advance games! T-shirts! Art books! A Blitz '99 arcade board with cabinet livery! A Kane & Lynch press kit! Goddamn Phillips CD-i games! It's like the nerdiest yard sale ever.

The whole night was a blast, and I can't wait until they do it again. Child's Play is constantly raising money to donate to children's hospitals across the country, and a night like this is a thoroughly enjoyable way to do it. I promised I would shout out to the Fire And Sonic blog, who are donating a buck to Child's Play for the first 100 people who comment on their own Ümloud post. Ladies, my swanky jacket and I like your style!

What I'm Playing:
  • Main Campaign: Muramasa: The Demon Blade
  • Side Quest: Soul Calibur 4, Rock Band 2
